Abstract (Detection of Recurrent Failure Scenarios, Communication Networks, Data Mining Algorithms)
  Mid-study research paper

Operators of communication networks maintain national networks whose operational readiness must be constantly monitored and guaranteed. A network management function is fault management. In order to detect disturbances in the network, alarm messages are transmitted from the disturbed elements of the network to the central stations. If several network elements are affected by one error at the same time, error messages accumulate. To solve this problem, alarm correlators are used in fault management. Based on given rules, these correlators summarize individual alarms into alarm groups.
The present study presents a solution to the problem of pattern finding developed with the help of advanced techniques such as data mining. Using the example of a GSM mobile network, it is shown how a given database of alarm messages can be subdivided and analyzed in a meaningful way.
