The established GSM mobile networks will soon be competing with UMTS systems, which should provide us with high-speed data connections. Looking closer, UMTS reveals a wealth of technical refinements. The network operator promises UMTS with its economic design a more efficient use of the frequencies. Although new tasks are added to network planners, complex old tasks of the GSM networks are eliminated. Network operators can assemble various cells, for example, for the supply of many subscribers with narrowband services such as telephony or for the supply of fewer subscribers with high data rates. |
